Temazcal building at Xalapa, Mexico
We are hosting a 6 day workshop over two weekends – March 6,7,8 and 13,14,15 at At Ojtli – centro sustentable, near Xalapa, Mexico. This is an intensive hands on workshop where you will learn the skill, art and science of building arches, vaults and a domes with masonry. We will be working on a live project to build a ceremonial 1.5m Radius Temazcal brick dome.

Program:
Mar 6, 7, 8
Day 1: Site preparation, introductions, and talk on the history and philosophy of building with mud.
Day 2: Setting up Guides, Marking, setting out on arches, Vaults and Domes. Talk on the science of building with mud. Soil Identification.
Day 3: Continuing masonry on Dome. Talk on Mud and lime plasters.
Mar 13,14,15
Day 4: Continuing Dome, Balancing weights, Lime plaster – Stucco. Talk on catenary structures and stability of arches, vaults and domes.
Day 5: Continuing Dome, Balancing weights, Lime plaster – Stucco. Design exercises on designing a arch with strings and weights.
Day 6: Completing the Dome, Balancing weights, Lime plaster – Stucco.
